Wow oh wow. I cannot believe the insanity of the manager you had to put up with -- I am SO glad you got away from that and found a space where you can thrive. 💖 I’ve been struggling a lot since moving from small company life to Fortune 500 corporate world so this post feels especially resonate. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you 🙏 It was truly wild and definitely changed the way I thought about the company after that. I can totally see how going from a small company to a huge one would be really hard. The bigger the company, the more bureaucracy there is (for better or worse). It does sound like you've done a good job about seeking out community within such a big company, though!
Hahaha I'll admit, it did feel pretty damn good 😏 She seemed to know she was on thin ice, so she just sat there and watched and then gave a BS list of the things she learned lol
You've summarized some of the stuff I most hate about working in corporate environments (and I'm considering startups as corporate too, it's the same bullshit on a smaller scale). The insane, incompetent managers, the gaslighting, the shameless exploitation, the cult-like rhetoric... I'd love to hear more about your switch from 9-5 work to freelancing as I'm going through this transition now and struggling a bit, so I'm curious about what it's been like for you!
Oh my gosh, yes, the cult-like rhetoric. They have to get you to drink the Kool-Aid so you don't question everything else. I'm happy to chat with you about the transition! I can send you a DM.
"drinking the kool-aid" is exactly the phrase that always came to mind! I felt like I was going insane sometimes, everyone around me was like "omg we loooove working here, this place is awesome and we're all best friends" and I kept thinking "so... am I the problem then"?
I had the exact same thoughts! And when all this went down with that horrible manager of mine and they didn't fire her after everything she'd done, it felt like they were basically saying I was the problem. It's such a confusing environment to be in.
Ugh, corporate life can be brutal. I'm so happy you are thriving outside the corporate walls and building something unique and authentically you! You are too talented to let someone or something push you down!

I'm certainly trying 😅

I thought the same thing! How did she react, Lauren?? lol

I’m glad you found a way to fly and love your creativity on your one on one meeting with your manager. Well done!
Thanks, Kathy! 🤗

What a terrible environment to have to go to day in and day out! So glad you're not there anymore. Onwards and upwards!
Onwards and upwards is right! Thank you for reading, Cassandra 🫶
