This is a great, thoughtful, self-aware post! As someone who’s admittedly very cynical about the platform without having ever tried it, you make me consider the pros. I think all social media is like that—it provides inspiration but can also be a toxic place and we all have to find what works for us.
It was quite interesting to read this alongside your last piece about finding zen vs doomscrolling from TikTok lol. A perfect example of the two sides of the coin!
It’ll be interesting to see what happens.
Also, a braces-off-themed party? I can’t watch the video lolll but I’m so curious because my partner is getting his braces off (hopefully) this year.
Thank you for the kind words, Morganne! And yes, the balance and boundaries are the key. I haven't necessarily figured it out yet (clearly, based on my yin and yang recent posts lolol), but self-awareness certainly feels like first step.
The app is officially back (it was offline for a grand total of 12 hours or so), but I'm wary of it. It was what appears to be a political stunt, and that makes me doubtful of its future and authenticity...
Yes! It was so creative and a fun way to celebrate something like braces. She's on IG if you want to check her out, she might have also posted the video there! Her handle is @kaylakitchandfix
You make (made?) some very valid points. I came across the millennial nostalgia girl on facebook shorts/reels whatever they're called and she's so funny! But would I log onto an app to hope to see her videos or a girl smiling with salads I will probably never make? nah...
She's great, isn't she?! But I can understand that, it's not for everyone. And now that the ban has proven to be a hoax, idk if it's for me anymore either.
Being of the older generation, TikTok never appealed to me and I never went on it. But I know of others who were addicted.
It definitely is addicting, but it can also be informational and inspiring, which is why it feels so special!
