Ironically I was feeling writers block last week too and despite the piece I had prepared it wasn't what I needed to share. I love this!

I saw that, we must be on the same wavelength! Good for you for listening to your gut and sharing something that felt more true to where you were at. And thanks for reading, you're the best!

Love the quote you posted and your interpretation of it. Writer’s block…I feel it every time I write my Christmas letter.

Thank you so much for reading, Kathy, I really appreciate it 🤍 Writer's block is tough to contend with for sure, yet somehow your letters always turn out great!

The letters always started with recording our family history through the years.

I’m glad people enjoy them while at the same time never feeling offended if the recipient has no desire to read it. That helps take any pressure off me as the writer. I wish I had that perspective ages ago.

Totally, thinking only about the writing and not about the end result helps me, as well. I wish that was something they'd tell us in school so we could put it into practice sooner!

True but every individual would still have to embrace that truth for themselves. Sometimes, it just takes time.

Ok what, TIL that ‘kryptonite’ wasn’t a word before Superman! Amazing haha.

Love seeing how you pushed through your writer’s block here! 👏 I’ve been curious about Bird by Bird since I’ve been getting more into writing...I’ll definitely have to read it :)

Right?! It's so engrained in our language now that it sounds legitimate!

Thank you for reading, Morganne, I always appreciate your thoughtful comments! You should also totally give Bird By Bird a read, it's a good one. Another great one is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert if you haven't already read it.

yes I reread Big Magic at the start of the year and loved it! I got a lot more out of it this time around, given that I’ve been taking writing seriously (versus years ago when I read it and was doing nothing creative).

In all honesty I was wondering if I’m “serious enough” of a writer to read Bird by Bird which seeing that in writing now is making me cringe 🙈 clearly a work in my progress with my self-talk and I’m definitely going to read it!

It's so funny you say that because I actually had a very similar experience when I read it the second time too (add that to our running list of similarities haha)! I'm so glad it resonated for you, it's such a good one.

You definitely are. The fact that you're taking yourself and your writing seriously means you're a serious writer! Plus, Anne Lamott's writing is very approachable and conversational. Bird By Bird actually reads similarly to Big Magic, so I think you'd like it! You'll have to let me know if you end up giving it a read.

"Emotion makes things matter" -YES! Feeling an emotion is our heart trying to tell us something important, and being brave enough to recognize it can be hard. Writing to an audience about it is even harder! But it does matter, and that's exactly what connects us all to each other. Thank you for keeping it real with your writing and allowing others to see you and relate to your experience. <3

Thank you so much for reading, Kels 🤍 I so appreciate you and your kind words. And you're so right about how emotions are signals for us and methods for connection with others.
